Atlante and the Rise of Greek Specialties: Feta Takes Centre Stage

17 June 2025

Food Magazine highlights Atlante’s role in driving the growth of the Greek food segment, balancing authenticity, innovation and private label expertise.

In its latest feature, Food Magazine spotlights Atlante’s leadership in the world of Greek specialties, focusing on the booming popularity of feta, which in 2024 recorded double-digit growth both in volume and value. This performance reflects Italian consumers’ growing interest in authentic, high-quality products, in line with broader trends favouring wellness and tradition.

Feta wins over Italian consumers: +17.4% in volume

Feta saw a +14% increase in value and +17.4% in volume compared to the previous year (NIQ data, December 2024). A surge that confirms Atlante as one of the key players in the market, thanks to its Kionas and Pavlakis brands and a well-established reputation as a trusted partner for the private labels of Italy’s leading retailers.

We’ve been working in the Greek specialties segment for over ten years,” explains Michela Mastropasqua, Category Manager at Atlante, “offering products made with locally sourced ingredients and traditional methods. Feta is our core category, but we’re also seeing strong momentum for halloumi – a typical Cypriot cheese that’s gaining significant ground in the Italian market.”

Consumer-focused expansion: lactose-free feta and waste-reducing packaging

Atlante has expanded its Kionas range with a new lactose-free feta, developed to meet the needs of consumers who are increasingly mindful of digestibility, without compromising on authentic flavour.
This DOP product, made exclusively with goat’s and sheep’s milk from local farms, is ideal for lactose-intolerant consumers who still want a premium-quality feta.

Another concrete response to market needs is the twin pack format (2x125g), designed to better suit everyday consumption and help reduce food waste. The double-portion packaging allows consumers to use only what they need, while keeping the remaining product fresh.
It’s a practical, sustainable solution that reflects Atlante’s commitment to offering a range that combines tradition, functionality, and a modern approach to consumption.

2025 goals: strengthening leadership in Greek specialties

Looking ahead to 2025, Atlante aims to further consolidate its leadership in the Greek specialties segment by expanding both its branded and private label ranges. Special focus will be placed on:

  • new functional feta variants (e.g. high-protein)
  • formats and packaging tailored to increasingly specific consumer needs in terms of usage, convenience and sustainability

“In a context of increasingly conscious consumption,” concludes Mastropasqua, “Atlante aspires to be a key player in promoting authenticity, bringing the best of Greek tradition to Italian tables.”
